The Gaming Giant Hires Apex Legends Lead to Rescue Troubled Action Game Ambitious Title

2K Games has secured a seasoned producer from the creators of Apex Legends to lead the studio crew at 31st Union, which is currently working on the upcoming over-the-shoulder roguelike extraction-shooter known as this innovative game.

Management Shift Comes After Lukewarm Feedback

Brinkman takes on the role of studio head at 31st Union following the dismissal of former leader the ex-Sledgehammer Games executive, who was reportedly let go due to the game's lackluster early showing last autumn.

On Wednesday, 2K president a key figure notified employees about this strategic move through an official communication, which stressed that playtesting had revealed the need for a distinct vision.

Ismailer noted that the team is now reimagining Project Ethos with a renewed vision, aiming to address player expectations.

The news follows a similar action taken by 2K Games in August, when they hired Rod Fergusson from Blizzard to work on the beloved franchise studio Cloud Chamber.

Here is the full text from the president's communication:

Team—

I understand you all just finished your gathering - I hope you’re as excited as I am with the good news. Last time I sent you all a message, I stated the following: “I believe in this crew. You all are some of the most motivated and talented developers we have had the pleasure to work with - and we’re eager for that collaboration to persist.”

Through your commitment and adaptability, especially over the last year, you continue to prove that.

The community feedback from last autumn’s Project ETHOS demo was revealing. It confirmed the promise of a roguelike shooter but made clear we still had improvements to make. It revealed the necessity for a sharper vision.

The progress is encouraging to see how far you’ve come. You took the criticism to mind and revamped Project ETHOS with a revitalized vision - one that’s ready to fulfill its ambition to our players.

Our confidence in this project increases every day. To further the outstanding advancement you’ve made, It is a pleasure to introduce the new hire as the latest Studio Head of 31st Union. Following some time of talks, he officially joins us on the specified date.

His guidance and experience in the competitive gaming space is considerable, having spent the past decade and a half creating and leading some of the most well-known titles in the industry, such as Call of Duty: Black Ops, and lately, Apex Legends.

Let’s together in greeting him next week. We are all excited to keep witnessing the evolution of the game in the time to come.
